Forget mass produced, choose one of these unique table lamps that combine edgy industrial materials with lovngly crafted reclaimed timber - much of it over 100 years old.

Handcrafted by JB from Shades at Grays, they provide statement lighting to enhance your room and create a beautiful ambiance.

See the range but be quick - they sell faster than JB can make them!

Each lamp is unique. Many of the pieces have been created from wharf timber, reclaimed and recycled following restoration work on the Petone and Eastbourne wharves in Wellington Harbour. The timber is Australian Jarrah, imported and used along with other Australian hardwoods in late nineteenth century New Zealand for commercial and industrial construction.

Other pieces are crafted from jarrah telegraph poles and beautiful totara fence posts. Each has its own history and each lamp comes with its own written story.

The history of the timber has been retained by incorporating construction elements, bolt holes and surface marks while still exposing and polishing the beautiful end grain. Natural beeswax is used to polish the wood and any ironwork.

A new addition to the series is the Edison wood planes that have been rescued from dark, dusty places of retirement and brought back to life to create functional art. These carpenters' tools reveal the history of their manufacturer - often from 17th and 18th century Europe - in the brand still clearly etched on the cutting blade.

Prices vary, starting at $165.

The look-alike vintage Edison bulb has a life of about 1500 hours. Each lamp has a long lead with an in-line switch and has been independently tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety.

They come with a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.

Free pick up is available from Greytown or Plimmerton, Wellington. Nationwide shipping is available, with a $5 flat delivery fee for the Wellington area.

Life's too short for boring light shades! Buy a beautiful lampshade and enhance your home with a bespoke light shade or table lamp.

I'm Sue Ingram and I began Shades at Grays, hand-making fabric lightshades in 2019 when I couldn't find lighting options that I wanted for my own home.

We're all used to using cushions and throws to add colour and interest to a room - and now you can do the same with your lighting.

I have a wide variety of fabric colours and patterns, plus a range of light shade frames in different sizes and shapes.  Shop online at https://shadesatgrays.co.nz with my easy to use website, where you can see all the fabric I have in stock. Once you've chosen your favourite, from the same page you can then pick the size and shape of shade you would like.

I stock a range of shade sizes and shapes including tapered shades, drums and barrels. Most of them can be used as ceiling pendants as well as for table and floor stands.

I have a range of childrens' fabrics, and a variety of table lamps to choose from too. These include stunning 100 year old timber table lamps made by my clever husband JB. His listing is under 'timber' or you can browse his products at the following link: https://shadesatgrays.co.nz/collections/edison-on-wood

I make your custom light shade from my home in Plimmerton, Porirua and carefully hand pack them so they arrive undamaged when ordered from around the country.

My turn-around time is 5 - 14 days.

Thank you for supporting a small New Zealand business :)
